The club dances regularly in several locations, National City Christian Church at Thomas Circle (a.k.a. NCCC), the Montgomery County Public Schools Takoma Park Cluster in suburban Maryland, and the Barkley Basement in Arlington, Virginia. Thanks to all who help make arrangements for these facilities.
National City Christian Church
National City Christian Church is located at 5 Thomas Cir NW. The entrance is through the courtyard door (the door on your right as you enter the courtyard) off 14th St NW. Street parking is available.
From Virginia, take I-395 N and exit onto 14th St NW. Continue to Thomas Circle,
From Maryland, take 16th St NW to P St and turn left. Continue to 14th St and turn right. The church is two and half blocks on the right. Park in the neighborhood.
On the Metro: Take the Red Line to Farrugut North. Get out at the K St exit. At the top of the street escalator, turn left, and walk 3-1/2 blocks to Vermont Ave. Turn left on Vermont Ave, and walk two blocks to Thomas Circle. Walk left around the circle to the church.
On the Metro: Take the Blue or Orange Line to McPerson Square. Get out at the 14 St / I St exit. Walk up 14th St three blocks to Thomas Circle. Walk left around the circle to the church.
Parking at the church - You can park beneath the church. Go north on 15th St, and after crossing Massachusetts Ave, take an immediate right turn onto N Street. Two-thirds of the way down the block turn right into the alley (just before the apartment building at the end of the block). Turn left into the parking garage entrance ramp. Push the call box for the church (not for the apartment building), and tell the desk person that you are there for square dancing. The desk person will buzz you in. After parking, use the buzzer to enter the church building. Go to the end of the long hall and take the elevator up to the main floor. Come out to the entry desk to be directed to the dance hall.
Eastern Middle School
The club is dancing at the Eastern Middle School, located at 300 University Ave E in Silver Spring, Maryland.
From Northern Virginia, take I-495 on the Inner Loop toward Silver Spring. Take Exit 29 and turn right on University Ave. Turn left at the light at Franklin Ave. You can park behind the school.
From Baltimore and points east, take I-95 south to I-495 W toward Silver Spring. Take Exit 29 and turn left on University Ave. Turn left at the traffic light at Franklin Avenue. You can park behind the school.
From Washington DC, come up 16th Street to Colesville Rd. Veer right on Colesville Rd. Take Colesville Rd to Franklin Ave. Turn right on Franklin Ave, and go through the University Blvd intersection. The school is on your right. Park behind the school.
Barkley - Some Classes and Workshops
The Barkley is located at 1016 S. Wayne Street in Arlington, Virginia. It's a few minutes from DC, and just off of I-395.
From Maryland, take I-495 to the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Take the Parkway south past Lady Bird Park to the I-395 S. exit towards the Pentagon. Continue on Washington Blvd. Look for VA-244, Columbia Pike. Exit onto W Columbia Pike. Turn left on Wayne St. You can park in guest parking at the Barkley (a parking lot on the front side of the building), but must register with the front desk or your car will be towed. Alternatively, S. Courthouse Rd usually has parking available on the street.
From DC, cross the 14th St Bridge. On I-395 S, take exit 8, Washington Blvd. Look for VA-244, Bailey's Crossroads and Columbia Pike. Exit onto W Columbia Pike. Follow directions, above.
The Waxter Center (Baltimore's Hot Dance Spot)
So you want to go to Baltimore and dance? Let's put it this way, downtown Baltimore is confusing because of a lot of one-way streets. But if you have a sense of adventure, try this:
To get to the Waxter Center from Suburban MD, VA, and DC: Take I-95 N from the Washington Beltway. Stay on I-95 N past the I-695 exit (the Baltimore Beltway). Get over to the right lanes (but not in the right lane, or you'll end up in some South Baltimore neighborhood) and eventually take the I-395/Downtown exit (Exit 53). Stay in the right lane and exit onto Martin Luther King Blvd. Continue on MLK past Eutaw. Take the next right on Read St, and go a short block. Veer left on W Chase. Go a very short block and turn right on Brexton St. (Brexton appears to be an alley, but it's really a street.) Go one block on Brexton and turn left on Tyson. Go two blocks (you'll cross Park Ave), and Tyson ends at Cathedral St. Turn right on Cathedral. The Waxter Center is at the end of the block on the right.
